After some of the false starts that kooday has given the members some may have started to think it was but today it was another ones turn to have a spanner thrown in the works.
Tagvillage moved into soft launch today and it must have been a bit like Kooday in the beginning. In fact I think because of the lessons people have learnt in Kooday it was probably a lot more frantic. Keywords were bought and gone in seconds, it was hard to keep hold of them. Words like google, money, facebook and more quickly moved over the $300 mark. But it wasn’t to go all smoothly and in just over 2 hours Tagvillage had to suspend trading.

The reason summarised in this paragraph (part of a whole page of info),
Basically, there are a few glitches in the database that mess up Sales, Purchases, and Credits exhanges when very many trades happen on the same word at the same time. There are a LOT of poeple who are after certain words like “Google” and “Facebook”. We found an instance where 200 people traded the word “Google” within 20 milliseconds of each other! That is 50 trades in less than 1 HUNDREDTH OF A SECOND! This is crucial information to fix the bugs and stabilize our future platform. We needed a lot of error data to isolate all the bugs and fix them. So, we left the Tag Trading live even though it was broken. The amount of data we collected is vital for correcting the situation quickly.
Pretty crazy stuff. I can say it was very interesting to say the least gaining $1200 profit in 134 minutes of trading. Unfortunately the bug that stopped trading also had one other consequence.
David (our CEO) has determined our company should proceed from the standpoint of fairness and equality for our members. Therefore, we will dump all Tag transactions from the system and start over again with a clean, fresh start
After all that effort the slate is wiped clean again. Not a popular decision for some especially since there are members that will probably not be able to make it to the rescheduled start. At this stage that is expected to be Monday, possibly morning. Moving from a weekend to a weekday will disadvantage a lot of people that have to go to work.
The information given to the members was quick and informative and aparently the fix will be easy to implement. Overall it was handled well by the company. The news came out around two hours after trading stopped. Prior to that an announcement was made telling members that news would be posted in an hours time. Good communication makes a difference.
This follows the initial delay as the soft launch was originally scheduled for 01 Jan 11.
So it isn’t only Kooday that is having false starts. There was a couple of other things that can be said about this. Is the way Kooday doing things better or worse. Would it be better for them to do a soft launch of the search engine for members to use and abuse so they can get the testing data from a large amount of use. In reality a soft launch is pretty much what Kooday is doing now except it is not with the real product apparently.
So while Kooday’s full launch was promised long ago it is not the only startup that is experiencing problems and delays. This should give Kooday members a bit of confidence knowing that it is not only them that are having to put up with delays.
Here’s looking towards a bright 2011
